I’ve been coaching and managing baseball and softball teams for many years as well as being a board member/league commissioner for a local baseball and softball travel and recreation league.
Based on my personal experience, I am not exaggerating when I say that over 80% of youth baseball coaches are incompetent.
Of course, I learned a lot by making tons of mistakes over the years myself so I am not in anyway implying that I am a perfect coach.
But I guarantee that you will meet (or already have encountered) many “bully” coaches along the way who only want what is best for their own kids. Worst offenders place winning above everything else!
By learning about how the sport is played, I looking to arm you with a wealth of information so that you will be there to stand up to some of these bully coaches.
As parents, we know that kids develop at a difference pace and it is our job to encourage them so that thew would want to continue playing baseball and softball.
The game of baseball/softball teaches us valuable life lessons but the sport is meant to be played when kids are young (unless you turn into an MLB player).
