I’ve been coaching and managing baseball and softball for many years as well as being a board member/league commissioner for a local baseball and softball travel and recreation league so I am not exaggerating when I say that over 90% of youth baseball coaches are incompetent.
Of course, I am not saying that to imply that I am a perfect coach in any way. As someone who did not play baseball at higher levels, I myself learned a lot by making tons of mistakes over the years.
But you will meet (or already have encountered) many “bully” coaches along the way who only emphasizes their own kids and winning above everything else.
By learning about managing and coaching a baseball and/or softball team, I am hoping to arm you with information to get these bully coaches out of the way and provide a safe and fun learning environment for our young players.
At the end of the day, your job is to ensure that kids want to continue playing baseball and softball as long as they can.
That will be your legacy as a competent coach.
