Diamond Baseballs

Diamond baseball (diamond-sports.com) is one of the most well-known baseball manufacturer in the industry.

Diamond uses the terms “tournament grade” and “competition grade” to differentiate the pill type used in youth baseballs.

Basically, tournament grade baseballs are intended for 13U and up and competition grade baseballs are intended for 9U to 12U.

If want to read more about different types of pills, please read my post, Different Types of Baseballs for Different Ages.

When in doubt as to which baseball you should use for your child, please contact your league board member.

Dixie League rule regarding baseballs for 2023 is found here (https://dixie-youth-baseball.dcatalog.com/v/2023-DYB-Rule-Book/?page=24)

Diamond High School Baseballs

Diamond high school baseballs do not fall under the purview of the Dixie League.

Instead, most, if not all, high schools use NFHS stamped baseballs (NFHS stands for National Federation of High Schools).

Diamond produces five baseball models for high school baseball games:

  • D1-PRO HS
  • D1-HS
  • D1-LS HS
  • DOL-A HS
  • DOL-1 HS

Diamond states that DOL-A HS and DOL-1 HS baseballs can be used with intermediate aged players.

Dixie League does not define what this is but the Little League defines it as eleven to thirteen year old players.

However, Diamond’s high school baseballs come with single- and double cushioned pills for greater exit velocity off of a bat so I do NOT RECOMMENDED using them with eleven and twelve year old players.

I will write a separate post to describe these high school balls in the future.
